In response to wide-spread floods and landslides in East and Central Java, CARE has distributed 1,200 sachets of water purifying solution to affected families in four sub-districts in Central Java.
The distribution was done in connection with a rapid assessment conducted by a CARE Emergency team in Solo, Central Java with support from KOMPIP, a local NGO.
More than 130,000 people have been affected by the flood in both provinces, with 50,000 people displaced and occupying temporary shelter provided by the local government and private institutions while the rest are forced to stay in their neighborhoods as the access to exit their villages is cut off by flood waters. more... |

On Thursday July 5, 2007, 18 journalists from different TV stations such as TVRI,RCTI, SCTV, Indosiar, Trans TV, Metro TV, and TPI departed to the US to participate in 6 weeks workshop in Ohio University, Athens, Columbus, USA. The chosen journalists are those with years of experiences in reporting conflict areas.
Before coming to the US, the journalists have joined 6 days workshop in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia. These series of workshops are held through cooperation between CERIC, Ohio University, US State Department, Communication Department University of Indonesia, and The Alliance of Independent Journalists Indonesia. more... |
